Artivista
Nanzi is an interdisciplinary “fronteriza” artivist based in San Diego, California. She was born in Los Angeles and raised in the border region of San Diego/Tijuana, where she embraced American and Mexican cultures.
Nanzi holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography with a minor in studio art from San José State University. Currently, she is pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree in artivism. She has exhibited her work internationally, independently, and as part of a collective.
Her recent artwork focuses on her identity as a "fronteriza" (transborder) person, depicting the expansion of the militarization zone on the US-Mexico border over the years. Her artistic practice also highlights the discouragement of higher education and the broken system that fails to provide quality education to students of color.
As an "artivist," Nanzi aims to inspire viewers to realize that all change begins within. She uses various mediums, including photography, social practice, digital graphics, drawing, pottery, and installations, to convey issues that affect underprivileged communities. These issues include the quality of education, food sustainability, chronic disease, and migration.
